Work With Emily

Knowing that trauma is predominantly held in the body, I deeply believe in the importance of a somatic and relational approach to healing.

Trauma-Informed Personal Training

A fat-positive, HAES®-aligned approach to movement that prioritizes nervous system safety, sustainability, consent, and bodily autonomy. Together, we use strength training as a gentle tool to help you reconnect with your body, rebuild self-trust, and move at a pace that honors your capacity.

Grief Therapy & Somatic Support

A gentle, specialized space for individuals navigating traumatic loss, sudden death, end-of-life transitions, and life-altering medical diagnoses. Integrating Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Complicated Grief Therapy, we honor how loss lives in both your mind and body.

Professional Consultation & Education

Specialized consultation and training for professionals bridging movement and mental health. I offer tailored guidance to help therapists integrate movement into sessions, help fitness pros adopt a trauma-informed approach, and support practitioners looking to integrate mental health and fitness practices.

My Approach

I believe that true healing and body connection can’t happen when we’re forced to fit into rigid timelines, push past our physical limits, or leave parts of ourselves at the door. Traditional spaces, whether in fitness or mental health, often ask us to fix, shrink, or rush through what we’re feeling. My work offers a grounded, compassionate alternative rooted in the simple belief that if trauma, grief, and stress live in the body, then healing must happen through the body, too.

Whether we’re meeting for therapy or trauma-informed personal training, we always move at the speed of your nervous system.

As a therapist specializing in traumatic loss, end-of-life care, and the deep grief of life-changing diagnoses, I offer a gentle, supportive space to process what you’re carrying. My practice integrates Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Complicated Grief Therapy, allowing us to honor not just your story, but how loss permanently alters the terrain of who we are and how we move through the world.

As a Trauma-Informed Personal Trainer, I bring that same patient, choice-driven care into our movement sessions. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, judged, or pushed too hard in traditional gym environments, you’re not alone. In our sessions, there’s zero pressure to perform, shrink, or "push through the pain." Instead, we use strength training to help you reconnect with your body, develop a sustainable movement practice, and tune into what feels supportive at your own pace.

Ultimately, whether you’re navigating complex loss or unlearning toxic fitness culture, my goal remains the same: to give you room to tune in, honor your capacity, and reclaim agency and self-trust in your own skin.

How I got here

My path to this work grew out of seeing a profound gap in how we care for people navigating life’s heaviest experiences. Starting out in hospice care and complex trauma work, I spent years supporting individuals and families through unimaginable losses—sudden and traumatic deaths, fatal addiction, terminal diagnoses, and life-altering medical events. Time and time again, I saw how deeply grief registers physically, leaving people feeling disconnected, numb, or uneasy in their own skin.

At the same time, traditional fitness culture felt increasingly out of touch with real human experience. Pushing through physical limits and striving for aesthetic goals left no room for nuance, trauma, or choice. I found myself imagining a different way forward—one that integrated my clinical therapy background with strength training. I wanted to create a space where movement becomes a compassionate language for what is hard to put into words, allowing pain and grief to be physically expressed, honored, and integrated safely.

That vision led me to expand my work beyond traditional boundaries. I founded Blue Current Therapy to provide a gentle, somatic space for complex grief and traumatic loss, and The Embodied Trainer, where I co-created the Trauma-Informed Personal Training Certification and authored Trauma-Informed Bodywork to help both clients and fitness professionals rethink what it means to move and heal. Today, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) and Trauma-Informed Personal Trainer based in Maryland, I feel endlessly lucky to guide people as they navigate grief, reclaim movement, and learn to feel at home in their bodies again.

When I’m not working with clients or training pros, you can usually find me buried in a good book, hunting for new food spots, tending to my ever-growing plant collection, traveling, or going on walks with my silly pit bull, Kobe.
